A small workshop, a long view.

Halden Cycles is four people in Kirkegata, Oslo. We design three bikes, buy the parts that last, and assemble each one when it is ordered.

How we build

Frames are welded for us in small batches and painted in Oslo. Everything else, from wheel building to the final tune, happens on our benches. A bike leaves the workshop mostly assembled; you fit the front wheel and pedals and straighten the bars, and the first service after about 300 km is on us.

Frames carry a lifetime warranty, components two years, and the Cargo's battery three years or a thousand charge cycles. Come by any afternoon, Tuesday to Saturday, for a test ride.

About this website

This site is also a demonstration. The assistant in the corner lives in a SharedWorker created with extendedLifetime: true, which keeps it running through the moment between one page unloading and the next one connecting. Cross-document view transitions give the pages their slide while the header and the assistant hold still, and the assistant paints its last known state before the first frame so the two snapshots line up.

Open the assistant, ask it something long, and move between pages while it answers. Then open its options and turn “Keep assistant alive between pages” off to see what happens without it.
